The Channel Islands have their own notes — the Guernsey pound and the Jersey pound, both of which are at par with the UK pound. Channel Islands notes and coins are not accepted in the UK, although they can be reconverted at parity in UK banks.
Sark, Herm and Alderney use the Guernsey pound. There are no cash machines on Sark or Herm, so visitors are advised to withdraw money before travelling to the islands - Guernsey has a multitude of ATMs. Accepted in larger establishments, although they are being used less and less. We would recommend changing it to English notes before you travel. The last thing you want is to have to get into a discussion over whether it is legal currency, which it is.
If it is no problem for you to get hold of standard UK notes it could well save you lots of problems. When you are in Jersey, most cash machines are grouped together in pairs. Remember that most places you can use a credit card. There are plenty of ATM machines around the island, so no need to worry about running out of cash. There are currently 27 banks operating in Jersey, most of them can be found in the capital St Helier.
