Our pup likes it, lots of deer carcasses around. Pretty sure there is no longer any logging happening, but I might be wrong. The lake is very nice. Too bad the path from spectacle lake has been completely logged Heed the warning signs that there is active logging happening.
Note to all, the area north of the park has been extensively logged in preparation for a new development. The trail turns into a rough clear cut as soon as you leave the park boundary. The loop around the lake is as beautiful as always.

This popular fishing lake is a great family-friendly destination. An easy trail winds around the lake for more than two km, with wooden bridges crossing the creeks and marshy areas feeding into Spectacle. The illegal introduction of bass has impacted the population of brookies and anglers increasingly report limited success angling for brook trout. As with other Island lakes, the chironomid midge hatch on Spectacle begins in March or April and usually lasts through May. Bloodworms and leeches are available for trout before that, and are a good standard pattern all season.
Early spring is a good time for mayfly and caddisfly patterns. April through June produces many opportunities for nymph and dry fly fishing. A short distance further and you reach the beginning where you began next to the map board. On a warm sunny day, return to the beach area for a refreshing swim in the lake.
From downtown Victoria, drive towards Douglas Street and head northbound, leaving the city area as the road turns into Highway 1. Follow the highway for roughly 20km, passing through Goldstream Provincial Park and continuing north. After passing the turnoff for Shawnigan Lake Road don't take that turnoff , stay in the left lane and move to the left turn lane for Whittaker Road.
Carefully turn left across the highway and follow Whittaker Road. When the road reaches a "V" junction after m, go right and drive into the parking area for Spectacle Lake Provincial Park. Dogs are not allowed on the beach area around Spectacle Lake and must be on a leash at all times within the park area. The main trail also unofficially links up to various regional trails outside of the park boundaries. In the winter, Spectacle Lake is one of the first to freeze, supplying a reliable skating site if temperatures are cold enough.
